Open net pen salmon farms are devastating to the wild populations in Coastal British Columbia. For over 30 years, the open pen salmon farming industry has been releasing parasites and pathogens such a sea lice into open ocean waters causing a steady decline in wild salmon populations.
Salmon Feed Forests: Coastal salmon are integral species for several ecosystems. They are what provide life for land mammals, birds, marine mammals and forests themselves as a whole.

- Salmon play a critical role in biodiversity and the health of natural environments & are a keystone species
- Salmon nourish trees, insects, algae, mosses and shrubs by enriching the rainforest’s living soil with nitrogen, sulfur, carbon and phosphorus. This process takes place when other larger species, like bears and wolves, drag their carcasses through the forest
- Salmon are culturally significant and today, salmon have been a primary food source for Columbia River Basin First Nations, and are a significant part of their cultural and spiritual identity.
