POW WATERLOO-WELLINGTON ADVOCACY WORKSHOP

The Government of Canada is currently developing a new policy that could drastically reduce emissions and allow Canada to meet its domestic and international climate targets: a limit on greenhouse gas emissions from the oil and gas sector. The federal government has committed to “cap oil and gas emissions today, and ensure they decrease tomorrow at a pace and scale needed to reach net-zero by 2050,” with five year binding targets as milestones along the way.

We need to show politicians that we are ready for climate action - and that the oil and gas industry isn't doing its fair share.

The timing of this workshop is key as MP's back back in their ridings on the second week of November, and this is the opportunity to voice our opinions directly to them.

This virtual workshop will go over the following:

  • how to schedule a meeting with your MP (focusing on the Waterloo and Kitchener-Conestoga ridings)
  • an overview of what the meeting itself will look like (with a script)
  • a walk through of various templates in the provided toolkit

While this session is focusing on two specific ridings as they are the target of this campaign, we encourage everyone to attend to gain the skills to connect with the MP from your own riding!

This workshop will be led by Sheldomar Elliott from the Climate Action Alliance, an organization that provides professional training to groups who seek to turn their passion into effective climate change action across Canada.
