POW Canada’s mission is to unite and organize the outdoor community to take action against climate change. When we say the outdoor community, we mean mobilizing EVERYONE who appreciates and enjoys the outdoors regardless of gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, age, neurodiversity, disability, status, citizenship, or any other aspect which makes them unique.

To date, our story has lacked representation of many communities. We recognize that diversity and equity in the outdoor space are integral to solving climate change. The more opportunities there are available for participation in the outdoors for ALL, the more chances we have at protecting it.

We want to both acknowledge the inadequate job we have done to date and commit to concrete actions.  In 2020, our board of directors adopted a DEI Action plan with clear goals tied to specific timelines. This Action Plan was shared with our constituency and the broader outdoor community with the intention of creating accountability and the hope of inspiring others to take action.

The climate change battle is also rooted in the battle for social justice and equality. You can’t have one without the other. As an organization that strives to be a leader in the national climate landscape, we commit to meaningful action knowing it will empower and accelerate our work.
