A: When I was 13 I gave up eating animal products and have been vegan/vegetarian ever since so that I can reduce my impact on the planet. Ever since I became aware of the impacts of overconsumption I have always shopped consciously (buying second hand, adopting a more minimal mindset, reducing waste, etc.). Even though I do have a car I opt for public transport when it is available. I have volunteered in coastal management for years to help mitigate the effects of climate change induced coastal erosion, and my choice to study environmental politics and science in university was a decision I made to educate myself about how I can help defend the planet against human impacts.

A: I am well informed on the climate crisis, but passionate about learning and doing more to help. I studied civil engineering in my undergrad and minored in sustainable energy systems, where I took many courses on climate and energy policy, renewable technology, and environmental science. Additionally, I worked in a mineral engineering lab studying the rehabilitation of old mining sites across Southern Ontario. I’ve also worked for a Green Energy company running workshops in high school classrooms teaching students about their carbon footprint and how to minimize it. Finally, I spend time volunteering with the Pine Project, teaching and mentoring youth through outdoor education. While pursuing my athletics, I am also working towards law school in the hopes of becoming an environmental lawyer.
