CAREER OPPORTUNITY

The Community and Advocacy Manager (CAM) is responsible for designing and delivering effective organizing strategies to ensure the growth and success of our regional volunteer chapters nationally.

This position is aimed at strengthening, growing and better resourcing our regional chapters through in-person and remote organizing. The CAM will help align the organizing priorities of the chapters with the regional and national advocacy goals of the organization. 

The CAM will lead the planning and execution of organizing regional tactics, communication strategies, volunteer training, chapter events and fundraising and maintain databases and digital tools to keep chapters functioning optimally. Through communication with chapters and other climate organizations, the CAM will also help to keep the POW staff team informed of regional trends influencing climate  advocacy.

HOURS & COMPENSATION:

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). Compensation within the range of  $65,000-$70,000 a year based on experience plus health benefits.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; experience motivating and managing volunteers.
  • Experience in leading grassroots advocacy campaigns, preferably in the climate or social justice space.
  • Good understanding of advocacy tactics such as lobbying, letter-writing campaigns, and digital activism.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools like NationBuilder or Salesforce; comfortable managing tech-based organizing tools like peer-to-peer texting
  • Strong value alignment with POW’s mission and vision and an interest in regional, provincial or national politics and climate action. 
  • Knowledge of outdoor sports and communities, with an understanding of how climate change impacts these spaces and industries.
  • Strong communication skills including a desire to work as part of a remote team
  • Proven experience managing teams and philosophical alignment with grassroots organizing (distributed leadership) principles 
  • Bilingual in French and English

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Organizing & Strategic Planning

  • Work with the team staff/director to develop regional organizing strategies that set the organization on track to deliver on regional strategic priorities. (These strategies will include regional organizing tactics, volunteer and member recruitment, campaign development and training plans)
  • Create and deliver high-quality, thoughtful regional organizing campaigns, using your creativity to design and implement inspiring and impactful journeys with clear theories of change
  • Develop campaign plans and oversee successful implementation
  • Help set organizing targets and monitor organizing campaigns to see if the goals are being achieved
  • Provide guidance and assistance to Regional Chapters in regional activations
  • Align regional efforts with national campaign strategies and Impact Areas
  • Implement National Advocacy Campaign components  at the Regional Chapter level
  • Monitor and analyze regional climate policy developments to keep chapters informed and aligned with current advocacy priorities.
  • Develop partnerships with local, regional, and national climate organizations to amplify advocacy efforts.
  • Organize virtual and in-person advocacy workshops, including training, scheduling, and briefing materials for volunteers.

Community Engagement

  • Develop a ladder of engagement for onboarding people into the movement with ways to bring them deeper into the organization with clear goals and objectives
  • Prepare campaigns and organizing resources like toolkits, posters, brochures, etc.
  • Work with chapter leaders to develop guidelines and best practices around regional communications (social media platforms and email) 
  • Plan and deliver trainings, orientations and events (on and offline) that build leadership and volunteer capacity
  • Execute fundraising initiatives at the regional chapter level to engage the community while raising awareness and resources for POW Canada.

Organizing Tactics

  • Recruit, train, support and retain volunteers
  • Develop and manage organizing tactics for in-place and remote  organizing; events, tech (peer-to-peer texting etc), and data entry
  • Build relationships with volunteers and external community/advocacy partners
  • Help plan and execute regional events and brand partner events
  • Help grow our POW Canada membership. 

Data + Tech

  • Help with the implementation and management of a CRM software tool
  • Help create and maintain tracking systems for organizing -- including thoughtful user journeys to deepen engagement and customize communication
  • Track potential and current volunteers for in-person  and remote organizing
  • Provide tech and digital campaigning support as needed
  • Use CRM data to identify growth opportunities and customize outreach to specific regional chapters or demographics.
