We’re Protect Our Winters, which makes our seasonal bias pretty obvious. But there’s a new season unfolding in Canada.

One where you check smoke forecasts before trail reports. Where a weekend in the mountains comes with an extra layer of planning. Where trails, campgrounds, and entire communities can be disrupted by wildfire in a matter of hours, sometimes with devastating consequences. Wildfire is becoming a defining part of how and where we experience the outdoors.

While winter is our favorite season, fire season is definitely the one we could do without... So we've created this campaign, a place to understand how wildfire is changing the outdoors, why the risks are growing, and what it will take to better protect lands and communities.

And it’s not just about fire itself. It’s about what happens before it starts, and what determines whether it stays small or becomes something far more destructive.

Because while wildfire is a natural part of many landscapes, the scale and severity of today’s fire seasons are being shaped by a warming climate and by the choices we make before the first spark. From prevention and early detection to firefighting capacity and community resilience, we need a stronger national approach to wildfire..
