WATCH: SKI RESORT REALITIES IN A WARMING CLIMATE WEBINAR

Ski Resorts operate on the front lines of climate change, experiencing the effects of shorter winters and warmer temperatures that ultimately affect their bottom line. Many have already implemented a robust sustainability program and are working towards achieving net zero and many are unsure of where to start. Regardless the future of the ski business is being threatened by climate change and we are calling on resorts to stand up to take action and advocate against it.

On June 29th 2021 POW hosted a webinar for Canadian ski resort operators entitled Ski Resort Realities in a Warming Climate- featuring Dr. Daniel Scott, Director Master of Climate Change Program at University of Waterloo, Auden Schedler, Senior Vice President of Sustainability at Aspen Skiing Company and Izzy Lynch, Program Director, Protect Our Winters Canada.

The discussed the climate models that showcase the risks to Canadian ski resorts, the advocacy opportunities available within the industry and the newly launched POW Resort Alliance.

The POW Resort Alliance a collective of Canadian ski resort operators who recognize they are the front lines of climate change and are taking bold action against it. Members resorts commit to a pledge to make sustainability a priority for their operations, advocate for climate protection and support POW's mission to turn outdoor enthusiasts into effective climate advocates.

As record high temperatures sweep across western Canada, the signs are clear- we need to work together to push for climate action now.
