THE PEAK WE HAVE TO BE PREPARED FOR
Hoping the world will buy our oil forever is not a strategy - it’s a gamble.
Whether we like it or not, the world is changing. If we don’t get ahead of the curve, Canada, and the thousands of workers in oil and gas, could be left in the dust.
We can’t control global oil markets, but we can control how we prepare for what’s next. If we wait too long, workers and communities will take the hit. But with a solid plan, we can create new, good-paying jobs and build a stronger, more reliable economy.

Fossil fuels have been incredibly beneficial to society. They gave us modern conveniences from air travel to cooling and heating in our homes. But we now understand that burning fossil fuels has serious consequences. Let’s be real: the old ways got us here, but they won’t take us where we need to go.
Building massive fossil fuel projects takes over a decade. That’s too slow for the challenges we face right now. Meanwhile, renewables like wind and solar can be up and running in just two years.
As the Pembina Institute puts it: “Canada should pursue a coordinated policy of electrification, a true nation-building endeavour that will reap rewards that endure well beyond the current dispute with our southern neighbour.”
Switching from digging up and exporting oil to building Canadian-made clean energy means we depend less on shaky global markets, do our part for the climate, and save money in the long run. It’s about keeping energy affordable, jobs local, and putting Canada’s future in our own hands.
If we want energy that’s reliable, affordable, and homegrown—renewables are the way forward.
